19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden title following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has won 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.

He rescued 4 early-game break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
